Waste to Energy Youth Project under WEYE Clean Energy funded by Katosi Women’s Development Trust held a Katosi Women Waste to Wealth Training workshop in Buzideeri Landing Site in Mukono District. This 2 day training from the 16th to 17th of January 2019 was aimed at 3 major outcomes;
- Improving the sanitation of the 4 landing Sites that attended this training by showing them how waste can be valuable if well sorted and managed.
- Creating waste to wealth businesses for example selling of used plastic bottles and polythene, making charcoal briquettes out of organic wastes and many more.
- Changing the mindsets of women and youth in Katosi fishing villages to be creative in generating income while protecting the environment we live in for example, the Lake Victoria and the forests around them.
Cores needs of communities rotate around food, water, conducive environment and affordable energy which Waste to Energy Youth Project addresses in its community training. For example, use of clean and affordable energy made from would be waste tackles the challenges of unsafe water and poor sanitation through proper waste management.
Another training is scheduled for 23rd to 24th of January 2019
