THE CHALLENGE
Women and youth in rural areas are most affected by the effects of climate change. Recognizing this stark reality, our community-based training initiatives prioritize empowerment and education. Through comprehensive sessions on waste management, sanitation, and waste-to-wealth concepts, we equip these communities with the knowledge and skills needed to address environmental challenges head-on.
In grass-root communities, where agriculture predominates, the common practice of cutting down trees for firewood remains alarmingly high. However, these very communities are blessed with an abundance of agricultural waste, stemming from crops like maize, rice, bananas, cassava, and sweet potatoes. Through our training, we shed light on the potential of this waste to be transformed into wealth, particularly through the production of briquettes. Not only does this offer a source of income for the community, but it also mitigates the need for deforestation, thus preserving nature’s delicate balance.
Our efforts extend beyond mere economic empowerment; they have the dual benefit of enhancing both livelihoods and environmental sustainability.
By equipping communities with the knowledge and skills to produce briquettes from agricultural waste, we not only uplift their well-being but also safeguard precious natural resources. Together with esteemed partners like Ndejje University, Bukatira CDC (Child Development Center), and St. Kizito Schools Namugongo, WEYE Clean Energy Company organized a community training in Bukatira, Nakaseke district.
Through collaborative initiatives like these, we are fostering resilience, promoting sustainable practices, and paving the way for a brighter, greener future for all.
